(with apologies to those who have already read this in the queer pagan tribe):
Just stumbled across this quote from Alan Barber of the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, and it appealed:
"The annual spend on parks and green spaces in the UK is only a third more than the National Health Service spends each year prescribing Prozac. What can you do with pills that you can't do by putting people into really good parks?"

Mr. Barber makes a good point. While some people may need the new anit-depressants, having a nice, clean park in which to veg is so much more appealing. -

Thu, September 16, 2004 - 5:47 PMNow you two are both being silly... who has time to sit in parks? It's Sooo much easier to just pop a little pill, it takes less time, etc. They don't call it Mother's Little Helper for nothing!

Fri, September 17, 2004 - 1:31 AMOf course, when I'm in the depths of a depression, I don't just need a nice city park, I need a huge great forest to walk in... -

Mon, September 20, 2004 - 4:13 AMi love a park to have some of mothers ruin in (thats gin by the way) a classic london tipple! most parks are crap victorian nightmares in the uk but its fucked up we dont spend more on them. parks are as important now as ever...i love 'em, a forest is nice but not always accesible so a city park is great... i love variety in parks and lets not forget city/street/community gardens and other green bits in this 'cos they get bugger all as well!
parks have also a reputation for social unrest and place of gathering...chartists and kennington park for example or even pride in the parks (when pride meant anthing).
we should defend them! lol
